Applications for admissions to the American Children's Home programs are
received from many sources, which include the Department of Social Services, Juvenile
Court Services, and the Mental Health System. In order to begin the admissions
process, the legal custodian should contact the Social Services Department of the American
Children's Home. After records are obtained, the Admissions Committee assesses each
applicant's strengths and needs, then decides the appropriateness of each child for the
program. This assessment determines the type of program for the child.
Prior to any placement of the child to the
programs, a pre-placement visit may be required. The visit lasts up to three days so
that the child and family can have the opportunity to meet the staff and children as well
as have the chance to see the living quarters. The visit is used as an icebreaker
for the child and a time for the child, family and staff to assess the probability of a
successful placement.
All information regarding the visit is shared
during the final Admissions Committee meeting. It is at this time that a decision is
made to admit the child to a recommended program.
Children who are referred to American
Children's Home Programs for placement will be accepted without regard to race, religion,
creed or national origin.
